Sports Rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary approach to treat injuries sustained through sports participation so the athlete can regain normal pain-free mobility. The primary goal is to return to pre-injury activities, whether the athlete is a professional, amateur or casual player.
Dr. Marron prefers taking the athlete through a FMS screening. The FMS is a tool used to identify asymmetries which result in functional movement deficiencies. The FMS aims to identify imbalances in mobility and stability during seven fundamental movement patterns. These movement patterns are designed to provide observable performance of basic locomotor, manipulative and stabilizing movements by placing an individual in extreme positions where weaknesses and imbalances become noticeable if appropriate mobility and motor control is not utilized. Once these deficiencies have been identified through the FMS, a program of corrective exercises is then developed with the goal of preventing musculoskeletal injuries.
If the athlete is already dealing with musculoskeletal injuries, they will perform the FMS if able to or is appropriate to be tested. The patient will also go through a thorough evaluation to help differential diagnose and detect dysfunction that will help Dr. Marron put together the individuals plan of care.
